Social Media is a big part of our lives. We all love to see what others are posting, we all love to consume content. Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube are one of the most popular social media platforms out there. No wonder why people are getting more and more into watching 3+ hours of YouTube. When you consume content on Social Media, you either go and consume content for learning purposes or you start binge-watching your favorite Instagram influencers. That is one of the factors why social media is currently stopping you from success.
We can all agree that social media is either good if you use it in a normal amount or bad if you overuse it. A lot of people are probably scrolling on their phones at least 3 hours a day. Sometimes we don’t even get to see side-effects of social media and social media affecting our workflow. Success and social media don’t go together, you must be probably wondering why? Well, social media is really a poisonous place to be a lot of times because a lot of people are looking at others and at their lifestyle.
A lot of the times people will feel down because they just saw one guy on Instagram going on a yacht. But the thing is, that’s just a 1% of their life that you get to see. If you had that 1 good moment in your day, would you share it on Instagram? Most of us probably would if we are active on the platform, and that’s why no one gets to see the hard work and behind the scenes of someone’s life.
Social Media is an Addictive Drug
You need to think of social media as a drug because it is a drug. If you are spending countless hours on Instagram and YouTube you are wasting your time. That will happen one day, day after that and that way you will be in a cycle. Don’t let social media dictate your life, you need to make the change and start working on yourself today.
When we start to scroll through Instagram or any other platform, we get that rush and we want things to happen immediately. We want that amazing car, we want to have that amazing life, we want to create a better life. Like our life is not enough. One of the most life-changing tips I can give to anyone is “get rid of social media” for the better. There are a couple of tips I will give you through this article and I if you can apply those tips, you will have a 100% better day to day work and life, trust me.
If you want to be successful in life, you will have to ditch social media for a part of your life. But trust me life is about balance and you can have it all with just a little bit of balance.
Know When To Switch Off
When you are working, you only need one thing to disturb your workflow. That one thing can be social media and in most cases it is. Turning off social media and setting your phone on airplane mode can really step up the quality of your work and in the end, you will get more work done throughout the day. One thing that I see most people doing is turning off their phone and leaving them in a safe which is incredible because you will have your focus for 6+ hours and then after you are done working you can go and you can start scrolling through your favorite Influencers on Instagram.
Know your priorities and know how to structure your day to day life. Do not waste time being on your phone all day. You will waste your precious time scrolling and watching others winning while you are not, remember people will always post the best moments in their life. One of the most disturbing things in your workflow can be your phone, so turn off notifications and just focus on your work, you will see how you will work less and do more just because you will get shit done way faster.
Using Your Phone First Thing In The Morning
This is one of the worst things you can do first thing in the morning. You will see how this will affect your day. You will be lazy and unmotivated to do things once you hop on the phone and scroll through Instagram. Naturally the best way to wake up is to at least wait a couple of hours (1 to 2 hours) before going working or going on your phone, of course, if you work a 9 to 5 you would go to work, but either way try to use your phone after a couple of hours of the day.
Checking email and seeing 100+ notifications especially if you own online business can be stressful, that’s why the best way to go about this is not to use your phone in the first couple of hours of your day. Be careful where you allocate your time, you can easily spend time and your day could go away while you were on your phone the whole day. What I would recommend to everyone is that you put your phone somewhere away from you in the morning so you can’t reach your phone when stepping out of your bed. Be sure to also put your phone on an airplane mode so you don’t get any notifications.
Using Your Phone Late at Night
This is another mistake that is costing you a lot. You are tired from your day and you just want to take a break and instead of going to sleep you start scrolling through your phone, that scrolling goes into 30 minutes, then 1 hour, 2 hours and that’s how it is. I know that because I also spent countless times binge-watching YouTube videos on my phone. Since I started Drive Toward Success brand I was always so focused on social media and Instagram because that’s the platform where I started building my brand. I was always on my phone both day and night and you get tired from that, you get lazy and unmotivated.
The right thing to do is don’t use your phone in the morning or at night before going to sleep because it will ruin your success and that’s the honest truth. If I sacrificed my phone time way before I would be way more successful right now, but hey some things you just have to learn through the process.
Use Breaks Between Your Work
Most of the people can’t even think about not having a phone, that’s why the best way to creating a better workflow for yourself is limiting your time on your phone and actually rewarding yourself later. What does that mean? You have small or short breaks between your work. You can go and work for 1 full hour and then you can have 10 minutes or 20 minutes of scrolling through Instagram and actually having a little bit of fun.
What I do when I work is I basically turn off my phone or just put it somewhere else and when I finish the work I reward myself with 5 – 10 minutes of phone time. This is something that helped me a lot through managing my tasks and through actually putting in a quality amount of time in my work and not wasting so much time on my smartphone. Social media can be bad or good for you but it’s all up to you how you are going to use it when you are using it and how much you are actually using it through the day.
How to actually use Social Media more for good than bad in your business?
Use Social Media Efficiently For Your Business
Using Social Media for your business is sometimes a hard task because you get distracted by all the nonsense online on Instagram and Facebook that you just can’t seem to find time for your business.
There are many pros and cons of social media, again it’s up to you how you use it. For example, if you were to use social media for your business, you can start using it for networking. Networking on Instagram or Facebook or even LinkedIn is a powerful way to create more connections for your business instead of just wasting time scrolling through Instagram start investing time and network with other high individuals online that are maybe interested in your business or that you are interested in their business.
Using Social Media as a Tool…
Since you already know that social media has more pros than cons use that to your advantage. Implement every social media channel and platform for your business. Don’t waste time scrolling through social media especially if you are working remotely or from home. Most of us doing business from home will waste a lot of that extra time on social media, why just not invest our time and build a business on social media as well as interact with our potential customers online. This is how to build an online business that you can be proud of.
Something I really learned over the past year and a half is to focus more on people and not followers. Now that means to focus more on the actual real people that want to help your business and your customers and not the number of followers you have. You will get much more results in the long run. I hope this article gave you some awesome tips and tricks that you can implement in your business as well as in your personal life.
